Tips for Building Social Presence in Your Online Class

ABSTRACT
This article provides an overview of the Community of Inquiry framework and suggests five ways to build social presence:1. Have your online students introduce themselves.
2. Introduce yourself to your students.
3. Create a "common area" for off-topic discussions.
4. Use synchronous tools for office hours.
5. Don't be in the center of every discussion.
