Good morning from sunny South Africa, I’m currently working on my PhD, where I’m exploring the integration of GenAI chatbots within the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework. My goal is to develop a set of guidelines for training chatbots to effectively function as active agents in supporting meaningful interactions within this educational framework. I have recently presented a paper which I co-authored with my ...

Most definitely. In fact, we used the CoI framework for professional development when Dr. Norm Vaughan did his doctorate on the subject. The following will provide an introduction to this work. Vaughan, N., & Garrison, D. R. (2005). Creating cognitive presence in a blended faculty development community. Internet and Higher Education, 8(1), 1-12. Also check out the new edition of our ...

The easy answer is that they cannot be easily separated; they overlap in the Venn diagram. According to the diagram and theory, each can have differing influence on the educational experience (dependent variable however it is defined). Off the top I suppose that the correlation among the presences will depend on the particular context which may explain the learning dynamic. Causality may be explored but the ...

Hi everyone I have recently begun collecting data using the Metacognition Survey, with a 5 point likert scale (strongly disagree to strongly agree). I am interested in exploring how much awareness students have of their own regulation of learning on their Distance learning programme. The programme is aimed at Medical Educators. I would be interested in hearing from others who may have conducted similar ...

Devine, My apologies for not checking the discussion board sooner. There is considerable evidence regarding the learning effectiveness when following the principles of the CoI framework. I would suggest checking out some of the editorials. I am currently working on an editorial that addresses this topic. Perhaps others can be more specific. DRG

Eva & Annette, Thank you so much for sharing this and congratulations on a thoughtful article. This is invaluable in addressing this issue regarding Lipman and the CoI framework. Moreover, I think you have been more than fair in your assessment of critical thinking in the context of the CoI framework. For me, CT provided a broader context and starting point. We did not do the hard work of providing direct links to ...

Your teachers are welcome to register in DCOI up to the final day of the MOOC, April 15, 2023. After that date, however, registration will be closed. Marije, Not sure I can be of much direct help. There is considerable research on faculty development if that would help. There is extensive research where faculty have used the CoI framework to design online learning experiences. Finally, I am not clear as to your question regarding different courses. the framework ...
